DIY Rosewater and Glycerin Facial Mist

My favorite DIY recipe is perhaps the quickest, simplest one to concoct. I carry this around with me EVERYWHERE. Seriously. In fact, between this facial mist and our Rejuvenating Face Oil, my complexion stays incredibly balanced.

When You Finally Admit that Mom Was Right…

Growing up, we always had rosewater in the fridge. A lot of Indian desserts call for it and, equally as fascinating to me, it’s been used in Asian beauty remedies for hundreds of years. A little while ago my mom noticed that I was a bit tired and stressed.  Between planning a wedding, starting a new job, changing apartments and everything else, life had gotten the best of me and it was showing, quite literally, on my face. She gave me a bottle of rosewater to use on my eyes, something that I’d seen her do often. So, that evening I dutifully placed cotton swabs soaked in rosewater on my eyelids, and waited for the magic to happen. And it did! I felt relaxed and the skin around my eyes instantly perked up. She had made a believer out of me!

After that, I knew I had to incorporate rosewater into my daily routine, and I ended up concocting a simple, pure facial mist.

More on Rose Water…

Rosewater, while wonderfully fragrant, also boasts some great benefits for skin. It’s anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial characteristics, in combination with it’s soothing aroma, help calm irritated skin. It can also help with wrinkles and dryness, in part because of its soothing aroma, but it helps balance the skin’s pH level and fight free radicals.

Glycerin… Before the Hyaluronic Acid Trend.

Glycerin is an organic compound, used in a lot of skincare products because of its ability to retain moisture. Like hyaluronic acid, it’s a humectant that grabs up all the water molecules nearby. Unlike hyaluronic acid though, glycerin is much gentler on the skin. The key is to mind your proportions, so that you don’t end up pulling any moisture out of your skin. Quick note: I don’t suggest using this facial mist if you live in an extremely dry climate.

Rosewater Facial Mist

Ok, ok, enough geeking out about natural ingredients. On to what you came here for – the easiest DIY facial mist recipe ever. You can get the ingredients from a lot of stores online, but personally I am really impressed with the quality of ingredients at Mountain Rose Herbs. I like to prepare this in a small 2oz bottle so that I can travel with it easily. Something like this would work perfectly.  And here are your ingredients:

100 ml rosewater

20 ml vegetable glycerin

Mix and use! This is an all purpose facial mist you can use in a variety of ways:

  • Spray before applying a facial oil so that it absorbs into the skin.
  • Spray over makeup as a setting mist.
  • Use anytime your skin is feeling a little dry or tired.
  • Keep one bottle in the fridge and use it to mist your face after a workout.
