If at First You Apply Sunscreen, Apply, Apply Again

Whether you’re diligent about applying sunscreen or not, you’ve definitely heard this word of advice: the single most important habit you can develop for the sake of your skin is to apply sunscreen every day. Even when it’s cloudy. Even when it’s raining. What you might not consider is that you should apply sunscreen multiple times a day. Most sunscreens are only effective for about two hours. So much for the SPF you applied in the morning protecting you from the peak afternoon sun.

Burnt? Don’t Sit There and Do Nothing

It’s easy to let minor burns just heal themselves, but bring yourself to nursing even the most minor of sunburns and summer related skin irritations. Why? Because no one wants to look forward to coarse skin, brown spots, and wrinkles. Summer skincare today means beautiful skin tomorrow.

So, what can you do if you’ve already gotten a bit too much sun? Treat your skin to a barrage of antioxidant-rich, nourishing, and soothing ingredients. Here’s a favorite little concoction of ours that eases burnt, irritated skin.

 


After Sun Soothing Skin “Tea”

½ cup boiled water
1 teaspoon dried chamomile
1 teaspoon dried calendula
1 teaspoon fresh rose petals or lavender
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
¼ teaspoon vegetable glycerin
¼ teaspoon honey

Directions: Soak the chamomile, calendula, and rose petals in boiled water, like you’re making tea. Strain and let cool. Stir in aloe, honey, and glycerin. Spray on affected areas as often as you’d like.
